Akram's informatin report about cars
Sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) are made for driving in all types of conditions, including mud or snow. Sports cars are built for power and good road handling. Many sports cars have room for just two passengers.
Racing cars are specially designed to compete on tracks and courses. Most racing cars are built to be lightweight and very fast. Because they are made for racing, they usually are not suited for driving on public streets.
A car gets power from its engine. Most auto engines burn gasoline. Gasoline goes through fuel lines from a gas tank to the engine.
Moving parts hooked up to the engine are called the drive train. The drive train carries mechanical energy from the engine to the wheels. The turning wheels make an automobile go.
The first cars were built in the 1700s. They were powered by steam engines. Modern cars are much better than earlier models. They are easier to drive and have advanced safety features such as air bags. Engines are more efficient and powerful. Cars are quieter and more comfortable inside.
Today, cars are more popular than ever. They are the main form of transportation for many people. Many people own more than one car.

Some of what Ro-June did during her holiday.
On the first day of the school holidays my family and I had to weed the front yard of the house which was hard work. We had to do it because my mum said if we did it she would buy us the freeview machine.
My mum gave us the money to buy it ourselves. It had 15 channels that looked amazing.

We go on bebo everyday
And comment to each other with hearts
My best friend

So what if he is in Sommerville School
He is awesome like any other dude
Information Report about the Sun
It is made out of many gases, chemicals and most importantly fire. The sun also lets off tiny explosions that create sunbeams and sunrays which gives us light and heat.
The sun formed first at the centre of the cloud. It became whole when gases and chemicals and dust started to grow.
The centre of the sun is called the core. The core is extremely hot. The heat sends tiny bits of matter called atoms crashing into each other. The crashing atoms set off atomic or nuclear reactions. All of the energy of the sun comes from these nuclear reactions in its core. It takes a long time for the energy from the core to reach the surface of the sun- about 170,000 years!!
The sun is very important to us. We play in the sunshine. We see daylight. The sun keeps us warm. Even ancient people knew the sun was very important. They thought the sun was a god. The ancient Greeks thought the sun god drove a chariot across the sky every day. The ancient Egyptians thought the sun god sailed a boat across the sky.
Heat from the sun warms up the ground. The warmth from the ground heats the air above. The sun warms us and gives everything life, so without the sun the universe would not exist!
Information Report about Oxygen
Oxygen is unseen air that is formed by fresh nature.
Oxygen is invisible and has no smell but it makes up a fifth of air around us. Oxygen is an element. Elements are basic substance that combines to form all the materials found on Earth. Oxygen is the most common element on earth. Almost half of the earth’s crust is oxygen.
There are more than 100 elements. Some elements that you may hear of include aluminium, lead, mercury, uranium and helium. Elements have different properties. Some are normally solids some are gases and a couple are liquids.
Oxygen gets recycled from plants to animals and back again. Green plants combine the sun’s energy with water and carbon dioxide to create food for themselves. Plants use carbon dioxide to breath out more oxygen.
Anything that is on fire needs oxygen to burn. Humans need oxygen to breathe. When they climb up high the mountains they take air tanks because the air is too thin to breathe properly. Human bodies inhale 6 billion tones of oxygen in a year.
Without oxygen the human race would die out and there would be no life on earth.

My holiday

In the holidays I went to my friend’s house and we went to the Museum and our favourite part was when we went into a room and it told us what would happen if a volcano erupted.
The next day I went with Chae and Jonathan to Panmure it was boring because we didn’t do anything except for walking. When we got back I went to sleep then Chae, Nathan and Jonathan went home. When I woke up I watched You Got Served then I fell asleep .
On Tuesday I stayed home with my dad and then went to the Warehouse with my sisters to get them some shoes then I saw a skateboard and I started riding around then the man asked “What are you doing?” and I ran away.
When I got home I watched TV then my sisters suggested playing dodge ball. They kept getting me out so I ran in the bush and stayed in there until the game was over.
The next day I slept at my friend’s house for the night. In the morning I went home and listened to music and watched TV. On Sunday I went to Sylvia Park and walked around and I saw a challenge where you had to stay on a wall while it moved.
I had a lot of fun in the holidays and I am looking forward to the next holidays.

Reflection of Term 2
On May 26th we went to the Howick Historical Village for the day and on the 4th of June we went to M.O.T.A.T for the day and we had a lot of fun. We learnt that new innovations always bring challenges and opportunities. At both these places we saw innovations from the past to the present in housing, work related tools, communication technology, transport etc.
In Mathematics we learnt about measurement in the first part of the term and then we learnt how to multiply and divide using smart strategies. In the last part of the term we also did some work in Algebra.
Technology has been fun for both the girls and boys. In the cooking classes with Miss Tafira we learnt how to make many yummy dishes. Our theme for the term was Kiwiana food and so we made various dishes using New Zealand ingredients.
Room 3 was lucky to have Miss Yee as our student teacher. She was a lot of fun. She helped us with our work. To show our appreciation, before she left we had a shared lunch to thank her for teaching us. During her time with us she would give us fake money when we did something good. At the end of her time with us she brought in some items such as red and blue pens, chocolate, lollipops, ice-creams and pencils. Each of us counted our money and bought something from Miss Yee using our money.
Mrs Parker-Tofa has become a blog addict on behalf of our class. She is constantly putting our work on our blog for us. She has also been teaching us how to use the blog and how to make comments on other students’ work from our school and from different schools in our cluster.
For our Unit Study we had to do I.R.T assignments. Those were fun and helped us learn a lot. We had to research our information. Find a timeline about our topics and then make a presentation using our information. We also had to present our IRT to the whole class and then Mrs Parker-Tofa assessed our work.
For Oral Language we had to write speeches and present our speech to the class. The introduction of our speech was a mihi which we learnt to write with Mrs Bailey in Te Reo.
Term two has been an amazing term. We have been busy all term and we have had fun learning.
I am looking forward to Term 3 and to know what Mrs Parker-Tofa has in store for us.
Memories of Term 2
In term 2 we were able to experience new learning and school related trips to strengthen our learning.
We had a student teacher named Miss Yee. We did a lot of things with Miss Yee like maths and reading. Miss Yee gave us fake money for being good we got 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, $2. At the end of her time with us we got to count our money and buy things from her collection of items that we could afford with our money.
We went to the Howick Historical Village to see how they lived in the olden days. We did some activities with the people that worked there. One activity was to make a go-cart. Not many groups finished making their go-cart, but we enjoyed the activity because we had to problem solve and cooperate with each other to complete the task and ride on the cart we made.
We also went to MOTAT to look at innovations from the past to the present in transport and communication for our topic study. During the day at MOTAT we looked at many different displays. After lunch at MOTAT our class had to go into the workshop for an education session on communication gadgets and how they improved over the years. There we had a teacher called Katie who taught us all about communication. We had an opportunity to look at and use the telegraph machine, radiograms, telephones, slide projectors, signalling systems, feather tip pens, typewriters and other old gadgets people used in the past. We learnt that innovations bring with them challenges and also opportunities.
There have been a lot of sports tournaments that our school took part in and one of them was a boy’s rugby tournament at Dunkirk. We played against Pt England, Sylvia Park, Bailey Road and Sacred Heart. We performed very well. The year 7 boys had a soccer tournament at Glendowie and we played against many other intermediate schools and did our very best.
It has been a busy term and I am sure next term will be another exciting and busy term. I can’t wait!!!

Our Trip to Motat
On Friday 4th June all the year 7 students went on a trip to Motat. We went by bus and some students went by van and car.
The reason we went to Motat is because we were learning about communication. When we arrived we were met by Katie and she told us that we are going to do some fun activities.
Then we went inside and had out morning tea. When we finished our morning tea we had to listen for our activities. We were also separated into groups. Our class Room 3 were separated into three groups. My group leader was Miss Yee our student teacher.
Our first activity was going to the Vehicle Gallery. We were looking at traffic lights and a green car. When we were looking for the traffic lights Miss Yee noticed that there was a Solar Kiwi that looks like an aeroplane.
After going to the Vehicle Gallery our next activity was the Communications House. We went in for ten minutes and when Chloe made the phone ring I went and picked up the phone and talked to her. Chloe and I were talking to each other and after that Miss Yee told us its time for us to go to our next activity.
Our next activity was going to Whisper Dishes. Chloe and Makareta ran and whispered to Johnny and Isi. We were whispering to each other and saying things to each other.
After the Whisper Dishes we went on a tram ride. When we arrived, our other class members were there with their groups. The Tram ride was fun. We listened to the history of the tram we were on. After the tram ride we had lunch with all the classes.
After lunch our class went to the workshop. We had to walk to where the classroom is. Katie was our educator. She told us about how communication was in the past and devices that were made in the present. It was interesting to see how big mobile phones used to be. The disks that could save work on from the computer were huge in the past. It is bigger than a big frying pan. After Katie’s presentation we got to experiment with the devices in the classroom.
When we finished our workshop, we walked back to meet the other classes. We said thank you to Katie for hosting us and started walking towards the bus. Our trip to Motat was a fun and interesting trip.

Experiencing life in the 1800s at the Howick Historical Village
On Wednesday the 26 of May all the year 7’s assembled in the hall. When Room 3 got there Mrs. Raj was ready to go on the trip. When all the year 7’s were in the hall we got into our groups. We were ready to go and we made our way to the bus. The bus couldn’t fit all the students so some of them went in the school van with Mrs. Raj.
When we got there we were all was excited. First we were greeted by three lovely women. They told us what activities we were going to do. First we got to eat our morning tea. When the bell went we had to line up in our class lines.
Our first activity was to experience what school was like in 1850. We got to experience how to greet the teacher. Her name is Mrs. Mills. When she said good morning girls had to curtsey and boys had to bow. Then we did handwriting with ink.
Our second activity was to make a small Raupo. We got split up into to two even groups. Genevieve, Afu and I went into the boy’s team. We were making the walls and Mrs Raj gave us a little help. Unfortunately we didn’t get to finish our Raupo because our next activity was waiting.
Our next activity was making bread. All the people in the front of the line got to put in one ingredient. She showed us some of the equipment in her kitchen. There were these things hanging from her wall when we asked what they were. We were told they were candles.
Our fourth and final activity was to make a small trolley. We got into different teams. All the tools we needed were in the bag. We were only given 20 minutes to make the trolley. Unfortunately we did not finish our trolley but it was fun trying to make one.
At the end I said thank you to the Howick Historical Village staff for being such awesome hosts. It was fun experiencing life as if were living in the 1800s. As a treat we were given free passes to go back for free.
Our trip to the Howick Historical Village
When we first got there we had our morning tea and put our bags away in special cupboards that had locks.
We got put into our classroom groups and we went to four different classroom activities. First we went to experience what school was like in the past. The chairs and tables were incredibly small. The boys had to let the girls go first all the time. Our teacher’s name was Mrs Mills. We started off with handwriting and we ended school by learning how money was and how much they were worth. We also had a spelling test and the boys won. The equipment we used to write with was ink and old fashioned ink pens.
Our second activity was when we made a mini Raupo Whare. Thanks to Mrs Parker-Tofa we were almost finished. The materials we used were flax, rope and sticks. The girls won because our one looked the best.
In our third activity, we learnt how to make bread and how they kept food good. There was a special cupboard on the side of the house where you could put your butter, milk and all your cold food accessories to keep them nice and cool. The oven was put in a fire place and there were special metal sticks that you use to open up the oven when the oven was hot. The oven and stove was working by fire and there was a huge barrel where they stored the wood. She said that if you wanted to made bread it took quite a long time to make in the past.
On our last classroom activity we got into groups of four and we had to try and make a trolley. Mrs White said the first team finished got to ride on it. The main key we used was Team Work. My team won because we were the first ones that were nearly finished. Eparama was the first one to ride on it but most of the pieces fell off!
After that we had our lunch and had free time to walk around but only where the teachers could see us.
After lunch we went with a teacher in groups to explore the Howick Historical Village. We had a partner to work with. Each pair had a booklet they had to work on. There were houses where two families had to live in. Upstairs was where everyone slept and downstairs was the everything room where you had to cook, iron and do much more work. There was one house where only one family could live but you would have had to be very wealthy because the house was HUGE! The Raupo Whare could only fit one family because it was really small. There was a small white tent that soldiers lived in. They were promised the tents by Queen Victoria.
Finally it was time to leave. Vaegaa’u said thank you on behalf of Tamaki Intermediate. We all went on the bus but the people who could not fit had to go in the van. When we got back to school, school was not finished just yet. We packed up and we enjoyed our DELICIOUS bread.

Dear Mrs Baker
My mum is the best mum ever because she cares for me and loves me. Every morning she makes my lunch and my breakfast. When I’m very sick she takes me to the doctors. She also gives me soup. She helps me do my homework and tells me to go to sleep.
She gets us presents on Christmas and on our birthday. On Christmas she goes out and comes back with a bag for each one of us.
That is why my mum is the best mum in the world.
Yours Sincerely,
Eparama

My Holidays
When we arrived there were a lot of people at the airport. We went and got our luggage from the bag claim and went through huge sliding doors and saw a lot of people picking up their families. I stood and looked for my aunty and saw her standing in the crowd. When I saw her she said to me "Happy birthday" and I smiled at her. I was as happy as a clown.
The drive to my aunty's home was a long one. It took us 45 minutes to drive to her house. When we arrived my sister grabbed my brother and kissed him until he turned red. I was so happy to see my sister. My sister and I sometimes get along but I was really happy to see her that day.
A few hours later, we went shopping at the mall that was near my aunty's house. We bought a lot of clothes. I felt so special. When we got home I was so tired and I went to sleep. When I woke up my mum told me to go and eat my dinner.
We stayed in Australia for 12 days. As we were packing on the day we left, my sister started crying. We said our goodbyes and headed for the airport. We arrived at the airport at 6.36 am. We checked in then headed to gate 9. We were one of the first people to board the plane.
As we were taking off my brother started crying and disturbed everyone on the plane. It took three hours and thirty minutes to get to Auckland. When we arrived in Auckland we had to sign many papers and went through many checks. When I saw my grandpa outside I hugged him and told him I missed him so much.
My holidays was great and I enjoyed it. I can't wait for the next holidays.

A holiday to remember
After my uncle picked me up, we went to McDonalds for breakfast. It was delicious. After breakfast we went and picked up my uncle Liam and my Nana.
The sight on our way down to Papamoa was amazing. I saw sheep, cows and lambs. They were so adorable to look at.
I fell asleep for about an hour. I woke up just as we were pulling into the petrol station. My Nana told me to go into the petrol station with her to buy some drinks and lollies. When my uncle Liam was having a drink, we went around a corner and his drink went all over him. It was hilarious.
I was reading a book when I saw a familiar sight. That was when I knew we were close. I put my book down and waited until we arrived to my dad's house.
When we arrived my two step sisters Mikayla and Leia came running outside to say hello. We all went inside the house and I put my bags away. I went and gave my dad a hug and said 'I missed you dad'. After that Mikayla, Leia and I went outside to play with my dad's dog Meth. We played until sundown then we went inside and had dinner which was Fish and Chips.
I really enjoyed my time in Papamoa and I hope to go back in the next holidays.

"I love being at Tamaki Intermediate"
Swimming lessons started in week 2 of the term. We learned freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly stroke, dog paddling and correct breathing techniques. After the lessons we got a bit of free time to do fun activities. It was a lot of fun. On the last day of our swimming sessions some students got chosen to participate in the swimming carnival to have fun races. I was lucky to have been part of the exciting event.
In social studies we learned about Amazing Aotearoa-NZ. We had to make posters or booklets to present our research information. We had the choice of putting together the inquiry learning project in a way that we liked. It had to have information such as tourist attractions in New Zealand and how New Zealand is similar or different to other countries. We had to name some places that were of significance in the history of New Zealand. We also learned about NZ icons and heroes. I enjoyed doing my Independent Research Topic about New Zealand.
At P.E. sessions we have played midnight, line tag, softball and other active sports.
We have also done technology this term. The boys from Room 3 learned how to cook at food technology and the girls worked really hard at hard materials.
Being part of the media team has boosted my confidence in making movies, facing the camera and working behind the scenes. I love being at this school.
I feel very comfortable at Tamaki Intermediate. It seems like I have always been here probably because I have been having so much fun.

Room 3
A fantastic Term 1 at Tamaki Intermediate School
Every Tuesday afternoon the boys from Room 3 had been marching to the art room and the girls to the hard materials workshop for Technology. At hard material technology we have learnt that constructing an object of value could be hard work, dangerous and could take a long time to complete.
This term, swimming was a lot of fun. The lessons have taught me how to swim in many different ways and how to keep myself safe in water. Getting into the crystal clear water and gliding through it felt like I was flying with a flock of birds in the misty air. Knowing that I can swim is a good feeling.
When I joined the softball team, I never thought that the team would bring victory to our school. We did. This was in the Eastern Zone Tournament. To play the Inter Zone Tournament we made the journey to Albany feeling apprehensive. Our nerves got the better of us. We all tried our best but came back saddened.
Learning at Tamaki Intermediate made me realise that this school has exceeded my mother’s, and my own expectations. I now know what this school expects of me and what I expect of the school. I am sure there will be many epic experiences I will be exposed to in the journey of my education at this lovely school.
