SPCA visit recount

Four adults were in the school hall waiting for all of us to arrive and to be seated. On their tee-shirts the logo of SPCA was embroided.

I couldn't wait to hear Norm Hewitt speak because he looked like an interesting speaker. “Wow” was the first describing word that came up in my head because our school has never had a man like him come to our school before, so were all very lucky.

“Awesome” was the word that he always said and it was really funny seeing him say that all the time. Hearing Norm speak about how he and Shellie love taking in and looking after abused animals made me really sad but looking at the animals that they look after made me really interested in looking after or adopting animal pets when I’m older.

What was really cool was that Norm and Shellie brought along their friend Alamein who is their pet dog. What was amazing was that Alamein knew 5-3=2. She would bark two times to answer the question.

Norm also showed us short clips of when he was a rugby player in the famous All Blacks team and how he was on “Dancing with the Stars.” He also spoke about his childhood dream of becoming a cow boy but instead he became an All Black.

Every story that Norm talked about made each and every one of us laugh because he was so hilarious. Hearing Norm talk about his own adventures and experiences made me want to kind of do what he does. At the end of our big school assembly, the house leaders had the opportunity to take a photo with all of the special guests who came along but Norm Hewitt was like taking photos with a lot of other people too.

Today was so much fun because I learnt all about taking care of animals like our own pets.
